Readmobile | A Novel Idea
SCOTT COUNTY READMOBILE NEW!!!
Scott County library director Jake Grussing shares the story about how his idea to make learning fun. His novel idea on how create and bring resources to families that otherwise may not have access to the tools desired to promote reading, writing, and learning, and to help shape personal growth is an inspirational story.
TALK, SING, READ & PLAY.
The Readmobile brings learning, literacy, and fun to Scott County communities with visits to community organizations, early childhood sites, and special events. It is a new concept, just recently revealed two weeks ago, the
beginning of March.
Children ages 0-5 and their families and caregivers can climb aboard anytime during a Readmobile visit and stay for as long as they wish. Its activities and materials encourage the early literacy practices of read, write, talk, sing, and play skills. Families of early learners will come away from a Readmobile visit with the tools to continue these practices and help prepare children for school, reading, and beyond.
The Readmobile also contains a small, diverse collection of books for families to borrow and return to the Readmobile. There is a different fun theme each week, so families can visit frequently and find new books and activities to borrow and share together.
Grussing shares, Readmobile’s goals are twofold:
The Readmobile $300,000 vehicle and start-up collection were funded by the generous support of Diane J. Sachs Trust and a grant from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.
- Readmobile will be a featured special cause at Smoke Signals 2nd Annual Charity Auto Show scheduled for Sunday, September 16 at Prior Lake High School.
